There are some people you meet in life and remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then there are some people you meet, and without even realising when it happened, they become part of the way you live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They become part of your routines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of your thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of the little things you do without thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And eventually, when someone asks you what makes a particular day special, you don’t have a proper answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because it isn’t one big thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a hundred tiny things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A familiar way of saying something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Someone reminding you to take care of yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Someone getting angry because you made a stupid decision and then, almost immediately after scolding you, asking whether you have eaten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Someone who can be the reason for your frustration at 10 PM and somehow also be the reason you are smiling at 10:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That kind of person is rare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And sometimes, the rarest things are the things we become most used to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some people care in a very particular way<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is a kind of care that doesn’t announce itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It doesn’t come with dramatic speeches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It doesn’t need to be shown to everybody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It appears in ordinary places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a scolding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a “Why did you do that?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a “Did you eat?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a “Don’t do that again.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the little things that may sound irritating when you hear them in the moment but somehow feel strangely comforting when you realise they came from someone who genuinely cares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are people you admire because of what they achieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And there are people you admire because of how they treat the people around them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second kind is rarer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because beauty is easy to notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kindness takes longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patience takes longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consistency takes longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ability to care about someone even when you are annoyed with them takes even longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that is the sort of person worth being proud of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not because they are perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But because even in their imperfect moments, there is something beautiful about the way they care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The person who never lets a fight become a goodbye<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is something I find strangely beautiful about people who cannot sleep properly after an unresolved fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not because they enjoy arguing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actually, probably the opposite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They just don’t know how to pretend that everything is okay when it isn’t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They may get angry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They may go quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They may say things they shouldn’t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They may even decide, for a little while, that they are not going to talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But somewhere underneath all that anger is the same thought:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This shouldn’t end like this.”<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

And eventually, they come back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not because the disagreement suddenly disappeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not because one person magically became right and the other became wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They come back because some people value a relationship more than they value winning an argument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is something deeply admirable about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The person who walks back first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The person who starts the conversation again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The person who asks you to talk even when you are stubbornly trying not to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The person who won’t simply let silence turn into distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And maybe that is why some fights become memories instead of endings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because someone cared enough to return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some people become familiar enough to break your silence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are moments when you can decide not to talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can sit there convincing yourself that you are still angry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can stare at your phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can wait for the other person to message first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can tell yourself that this time you are definitely not going to respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then they start talking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not necessarily saying something extraordinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes it is the most ordinary conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And somehow you answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe it is the way they speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe it is their voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe it is simply because after hearing them long enough, silence doesn’t feel as powerful anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are people whose presence has that effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They can walk through a wall you spent hours building without even realising they were doing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is not weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is familiarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is what happens when someone becomes such a natural part of your life that even your anger knows how to make space for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2 AM people<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Life tells us that the important people are the ones we spend the most time with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m not sure that’s always true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes you understand how important someone is when you realise they are the person you would call at 2 AM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For absolutely anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A serious problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A stupid question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something you don’t understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something you are excited about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something that is worrying you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something that makes no sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something that only seems important because it is 2 AM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And somehow, there is one person you know you can call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a comfort in knowing that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No complicated explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No formal conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No need to carefully choose the right words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I need to tell you something.”<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

And the other person listens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That kind of comfort cannot be manufactured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It develops quietly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over hundreds of conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over thousands of ordinary moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the kind of relationship where you know you can ask almost anything under the sky and somehow the conversation will continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The little things that become enormous<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes we think memories are created during extraordinary moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Big achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Important days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But most of our favourite memories are usually much smaller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A particular food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A particular smell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A particular show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A particular song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A particular sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A particular joke that nobody else would understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A favourite movie watched too many times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An old serial that somehow remains special long after everyone else has moved on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bowl of dhal rasam<\/strong> that is somehow more comforting than an expensive meal ever could be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is how memories really work<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They hide inside ordinary things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And years later, you encounter that smell, that song, that scene, that taste…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and suddenly you are somewhere else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not physically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emotionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are back in a particular room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A particular day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A particular version of yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a particular person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe that is why some old television stories remain special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But because of what they became attached to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Certain shows become associated with certain phases of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Certain songs become associated with certain people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Certain movies become associated with certain kinds of happiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And some old stories somehow stay tucked away in your heart even when years pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is something beautiful about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because nostalgia isn’t really about the thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is about the feeling attached to the thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A serial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A favourite actor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suddenly, none of it is just entertainment anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It becomes part of your personal history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
